Privacy Policy
Last updated 17 August 2026
wdiet has no accounts, no logins, and no advertising. This page describes every piece of data the app handles, in the order it happens.
Your fridge photo
When you tap “Find recipes”, the photo you chose is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to Anthropic’s Claude API to be read. The recipes come back and the photo is discarded.
We do not save your photo, and we do not keep a copy of what was identified in it. Anthropic processes the image to generate the response and may retain it briefly for abuse monitoring under their privacy policy; they do not use it to train models. Nobody at wdiet looks at your photos.
Photos are only ever sent when you press “Find recipes”. Choosing a picture and then backing out sends nothing.
The note field and your kitchen staples
Anything you type into “Anything we should know?” is sent with the photo and treated the same way — used to generate the recipes, then discarded. Your kitchen staples list is stored on your device and sent with each request so the recipes know what you already have.
Please don’t type personal or sensitive information into the note field. It is for cooking instructions, not for anything you’d mind sharing.
Counting your free photos
The first three photos are free, and we have to remember how many you’ve used. To do that our server stores two things: your device’s identifierForVendor — an anonymous ID Apple gives us that is specific to your device and to apps from this developer — and a number from 0 to 3.
That ID is not your name, your Apple Account, your email, or your advertising identifier. It cannot be used to identify you, it is not shared with anyone, and it is not used for tracking or advertising. Deleting the app resets it.
Subscriptions
If you subscribe, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details, card number, or Apple Account.
We use RevenueCat to check whether a subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous customer ID and Apple’s receipt for the purchase. Our server asks RevenueCat one question — “is this customer subscribed?” — and gets back yes or no.
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera — only to photograph your own fridge. The app does not record video or use the camera in the background.
- Photo library — an alternative to the camera. iOS shows you a picker and passes us only the single image you choose; the app cannot browse your library.
Both are optional. Decline them and the rest of the app still works — you just won’t be able to add a photo.
What we don’t do
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
- No advertising, and no advertising identifier.
- No tracking of you across other apps or websites.
- No selling or sharing of data with data brokers.
- No email address, name, phone number, or location collected. Ever.
Children
wdiet is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. Since the app collects no personal information from anyone, there is nothing for us to delete on request — but if you have a concern, write to us at the address below.
Deleting your data
Delete the app and the only record connected to your device — the free-photo counter — becomes orphaned and is removed. There is no account to close. If you’d like it deleted sooner, email us and we’ll do it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR and the CCPA you may request access to, or deletion of, any personal data we hold. Because wdiet holds nothing beyond an anonymous device ID and a counter, such a request is usually answered by confirming exactly that. Email us and we’ll respond within 30 days. We do not sell personal information, and we never have.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes rather than made quietly.
